Lake Gutiérrez was this Sunday the scene of the finals of the First Dragon Boat Festival held in Bariloche, a colorful competition organized to celebrate the 50th. anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Argentina and China.
The festival was organized by the Argentine Dragon Boat Association, the Government of Río Negro together with the Municipality of Bariloche, with the support and collaboration of the Chinese Embassy in Argentina and the Bariloche Dragon Boat Base, made up of the Mongüen Kawen club and the Nahuel Rosa Project Foundation.
The organizers explained that the first regattas in this type of boat, which has the head of a dragon on its prow, took place in China more than 2,500 years ago, at the same time that the Olympic Games began to take place in ancient Greece. .
The winners of the competition in the men’s 500-meter category were the representative team of the Chinese community in Argentina, while in the mixed 200-meter category, the award went to the local team of the Nahuel Rosa Project Foundation.
In the women’s 200 meters category, the winners were the participants of the Biguas team, while in the men’s 200 meters category, the Dragon Fire group, from Buenos Aires, took the victory.
Bariloche is being nominated by the Dragon Boat Association of Argentina, to host the next Pan American Games of this specialty, and the authorities of the Association highlighted that the prolixity in the organization of this Festival, “indicates that this City is fully prepared to carry it forward”.
