ANEP presented in Parliament the project that seeks “to improve student learning”. There are currently 29 in operation.
The National Administration of Public Education (ANEP) announced that it will incorporate 14 María Espínola Full-Time centers (CME) for Secondary and UTU in the year 2023.
This Thursday the institution, the president of the Central Board of Directors (Codicen) of ANEP, Robert Silva, announced in Parliament that from next year 43 full-time centers will operate throughout the country.
The new CMEs will be: CEA – Barrio El General in the city of Colonia del Sacramento; Superior Technological School of Administration and Service and Liceo de Rincón de Valentín, in Salto; Liceo de Colonia Lavalleja and Rincón de Valentín, both in Salto; Technical School of the city of Chuy (Rocha); Associated Educational Center of the Llamas Station, Associated Educational Center of the Pajas Blancas Station and Liceo Nº 77 in Montevideo; Associated Educational Center of Balneario Buenos Aires, in Maldonado; Paysandu No. 9; Liceo de San Javier and Liceo de Young, in Río Negro; Paso de los Toros High School No. 2 in Tacuarembo.
These centers propose an 8-hour educational day with a food proposal (three per day), as well as “new figures for teaching support: Teaching Coordinator, Activities and Participation Coordinator, and Technology and Innovation professor, reported ANEP.
In addition, it includes thedevelopment of space for workshops chosen by the students themselves”, «additional coordination space for teachers» and «professional training in services located and contextualized in the needs of the educational center for all the teachers that integrate it».
Effective teachers are given the “possibility of choosing teaching hours for three years.”
The CMEs promote project work, a higher level of interdisciplinarity and co-teaching.
Currently, 5,000 students have access to the 29 CMEs throughout the country. The purpose of these centers is “to improve student learning, while moving towards educational centers with greater autonomy in their management, and with more stable teams,” said ANEP.
Unemployment in education
This Thursday, July 28, the Association of Secondary Education Teachers (ADES) and the Association of Officials of UTU (Afutu) held a 24-hour strike in the framework of the parliamentary discussion on the Accountability bill that has as a great hub for education.
The mobilization began in the Executive Tower and went to the Legislative Palace under the slogan “Education of the people defends itself.”
For his part, the president of Codicen responded to the strike at a press conference after presenting the new CMEs in Parliament. «Welcome the discrepancy, the different points of view. Now, together with that, the proposals have to come, because disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing only implies that the issues remain as they are, “said Silva.
“Contrary to what is said, this process of Educational Transformation may be, without fear of being wrong, the one with the greatest participation that there has been in recent times,” he added.
