The director of the Office against Trafficking in Persons of the Ministry of Public Security said that organizations dedicated to human trafficking use social networks with false information, in which scholarships or jobs are offered without the corresponding permits, to catch their victims.
A team of psychologists and social workers from the Office against Trafficking in Persons of the Ministry of Public Security have treated 38 victims of human trafficking so far this year.
The director of this office, Dayra Campos, explained that the victims of this crime are not foreigners, as in previous years, now minors between the ages of six and 15 of Panamanian nationality.
The rescue operation is called “Operation Light of Hope” that goes from a border cord between Panama and Costa Rica. Campos expressed that “unfortunately, in some cases, the parents or guardians of foster care lend themselves to commit these crimes, which constitutes an aggravating circumstance to the conduct typified in the Law.”
He explained that organizations dedicated to human trafficking use social networks with false information, in which scholarships or jobs are offered without the corresponding permits, to capture their victims.
95 victims have been rescued in the last three years, in which psychological therapies and evaluations by social workers have been carried out
