In 2022 authorities seized more than 31 tons of drugs

Within the framework of the new strategies and as part of the strengthening of the fight against drug trafficking, the Dominican authorities managed to occupy during this 2022, more than 31 tons of different drugs, exceeding the figures last year, where 25,903 kilograms of controlled substances.

“These figures mark a before and after in the fight against and persecution of organized crime and set a new record in the number of drug seizures during 2022.”

The National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) reported that together with the Attorney General’s Office, the Armed Forces, the Police, State Intelligence agencies and other official bodies, the total number of seized drugs during 2022, they reached 31,113 kilograms of different drugs (31.1 tons).

In details, the authorities seized 27,732 kilograms of cocaine3, 346 of dope11.09 ecstasy8.8 of hashish, 22.75 of crack, 1.21 of opium, among other substances controlled.

It should be noted that the Dominican Republicthrough the exchange of information, also contributed another 3,458 kilograms of drugs that were seized internationally, as part of the expansion of cooperation with allied countries.

In these joint operations, carried out at airports, ports, borders, coasts and other parts of the country, 21,162 people were arrested, 92 percent Dominicans and the remaining foreigners, of this amount, they were extradited or deported to USA70 people.

In addition, 2,620 vehicles and 281 firearms were seized, including rifles and shotguns, thousands of ammunition of different calibers, two aircraft, boats, radio navigation equipment, communication radios, boatsoutboard motors, as well as US$1,044,894 dollars and 36,789,001 Dominican pesos, among other evidence.

The amount of drugs, movable and immovable property, money and vehicles, among other properties, seized from criminal networks, shows the firm commitment of the President’s government Luis Abinaderto face and fight with determination, drug trafficking, money laundering and transnational crime.
