The University Council of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the highest governing body, approved the annual account for 2021, during which 48 thousand 205.3 million pesos were exercised, 6 percent more than the previous year.
In 2021, the highest house of studies obtained more resources. The federal subsidy, which was 43 thousand 743.3 million, presented a greater collection of 1 thousand 5.8 million from the expansion authorized by the government of the Republic at the end of the year to cover requirements in salaries and benefits to personnel. As for own income, the gradual increase in face-to-face activities as of last May derived in additional resources of 555.5 million pesos.
3.3 percent more resources than estimated were exercised as a result of greater face-to-face activity; 93.5 percent of the money (45 thousand 77 million pesos) was allocated to the operational needs of the institution, whose main item is staff salaries and benefits.
28 thousand 886.3 million pesos were allocated to teaching, of which 22 thousand 391.8 million were for higher education and 6 thousand 244.5 million for high school. Research channeled 12 thousand 824.2 million and 3 thousand 774.9 million to university extension. For institutional management, 2 thousand 193.9 million were applied.
Regarding investments, they totaled 3 thousand 128.4 million pesos, and the main items were construction, rehabilitation and remodeling of real estate.
In an ordinary session, the University Council also elected Luis Armando Díaz-Infante Chapa as a new member of the Governing Board, replacing Óscar de Buen Richkarday, who ends his functions by mandate of law.
Díaz-Infante Chapa is an engineering teacher, academic at UNAM for more than 17 years. He has professional experience of more than 25 years in the development of social and affordable housing real estate projects, and is vice president of the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry.
In addition, the University Council approved changing the name of the Master’s Program in Nursing to the Master’s and Doctorate Program in Nursing and creating the doctoral study plan in this discipline, as well as the corresponding degree.
He also learned of several reports, including that of the Ombudsman for University Rights, Equality and Attention to Gender Violence, corresponding to the period 2020-2021. Guadalupe Barrena, head of said body, indicated that the scope it has in the community has doubled. She added that they treated 1,211 people for gender violence.
