According to the most recent ANH report, at the end of the hydrocarbon operation in 2021, the country increased crude oil reserves at 7.6 yearsreaching the highest level since 2009. For its part, the remaining gas increased for the first time in nine years, going from 7.7 to 8.0 years of useful life.

Although production has not reached pre-pandemic levels, crude oil reserves managed to increase significantly thanks to increased exploration and improved recovery. Thus, the oil remnants reached 2,039 million barrels (Mbl) which means a net increase of 12.3% (223 Mbl), compared to the previous year, when 1,816 Mbl were reported.
“Proven and probable oil reserves also increased from 8.8 years to 10.5 years; while the proven, probable and possible ones rose from 10.7 to 12.9 years. It is noteworthy that the net valuation of the reserves is $35.2 trillion”, said the Minister of Mines and Energy, Diego Mesa.
At regional level, Meta and Casanare they continue to be the areas of the country that contribute the most in crude oil; the first with 51.6% (1,053 Mbls), and the second with 17.1% (349 Mbls).

In terms of gas, proven reserves reached 3,163 cubic giga-feet (Gcf), which represents an increase of 7.3% (215 Gcf) compared to the previous year, when 2,949 Gcf were reported.
