IMSS Welfare launches the new drug distribution model

IMSS Welfare launches the new drug distribution model

This model includes significant changes. Bet to distribute in a single delivery all the medications that a health center needs for the operation of one month. Until now, the distribution focused on fragmented deliveries of various products.

As of today, all clinics will begin to receive the same supply package in the 23 states where IMSS welfare manages health services. The kit contains 147 types of medicines that the authorities consider indispensable. The number of pieces to be delivered will be according to the size of each health center and the average consultation it grants monthly.

“The idea is that all health centers have the same authorized medications to apply in the first level of care,” he explained Alejandro Svarch, head of the IMSS Welfare.

“This strategy represents much more than a distribution model. It is the guarantee that each doctor has what is necessary and that each patient finds what he requires in their medical consultation,” he added when he gave the official start to the program.

The scheme begins with the distribution of 15 million pieces, organized at almost 10,500 packages. The authorities plan to deliver them in the next five days to 8,000 medical units of the 23 states.

To do this, they designed 1,000 routes, which will be toured between August 19 and 23 by the trucks rented by the government. Next week will begin the distribution in hospitals. Every month a similar delivery will be made.

“Through pre -trained and organized kits, we will cover the 100% supply each month, eliminating administrative and logistics barriers that fractional the inputs and limited access to important medicines,” Svarch promised.

Some of the trucks that will distribute the supplies left this morning from the central warehouse of IMSS well -being in Mexico City. This first route runs from Azcapotzalco to the T-II El Arenal Health Center.

The governors of the 23 states where IMSS Welfare operates went to the exit flag of the vehicles of the health routes, a program qualified by SVARCH as the “most important” and “transcendent” strategy to solve the problem of supply of medicines.

Due to problems with the consolidated purchase of health supplies by 2025 and 2026, of anomalies and corruption in the contracts, several hospitals recorded shortage this year, which caused protests of doctors, nurses and patients.

Just on August 9 and 10, the red nose organization, which supports cancer patients, made a demonstration against the shortage in several cities of the country, including the capital and Guadalajara.

The problem worsened in the tartinas in the distribution of inputs. The authorities point to private logistics operators not to meet the delivery dates. So they canceled some of those contracts and implemented their own last mile scheme.

President Claudia Sheinbaum said that oncological medications have already been distributed last week. He acknowledged that there was a bureaucratic process, but said they are looking for a solution.

“We are advancing and improving this great health system of Welfare,” he said.
