The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) notified its suppliers the early termination of 167 assigned and signed contracts of the bidding of the consolidated purchase for the supply of supplies of the period 2025-2026, as well as 73 that resulted from the direct adjudication procedure.
Thus, compliance with the resolution of the Anti -Corruption Secretariat and good governance advances that on April 8 declared the nullity of the acquisition that carried out Laboratory of Biological and Reagents of Mexico (Birmex), which involved 3,900 keys of medicines, healing material and diagnostic assistants for 26 health institutions.
According to the official information, contracts were awarded for 1,487 keys, of which 1,251 were for one provider and 236 for two or more. Other thousand 318 did not receive sales offers and 1,44 declared deserted.
In the ex officio intervention, the agency identified a series of irregularities and breaches of the Procurement Law in the design of the Bases of the Call and in the three sessions of the Clarification Board.
He resolved that the vices of origin detected led to the award of contracts that represented damage to the treasury for 13 billion pesos.
On April 10, Birmex issued the nullity notice, in order to initiate compliance actions to the resolution of the federal agency.
The IMSS, on the other hand, began the procedure for the early termination of the contracts and establish the settlements that will include the payments to suppliers for the goods delivered from the beginning of the contract until the moment of early termination
. They are, among others, the transnational laboratories Abbot, Astrazeneca, Johnson and Johnson, Pfizer, Bayer and Merck.
On April 1, the Undersecretary of Sector Integration and Coordination of Medical Care Services, Eduardo Clark, reported that IMSS, ISSSTE and IMSS-Bienestar had received 233 million pieces of the various supplies for the provision of medical services.
The official foresee that the suppliers deliver 381 million pieces – without specifying the number of keys – and assured that the supply would be guaranteed for the next 1.8 months.
