The imprisonment and accusation against the Sandinista militant and former security official of the “Oscar Danilo Rosales Argüello” School Hospital in León, Harbin, Manuel Mayorga Mercado, has caused great surprise; whom Leonese saw armed, dismantling roadblocks of opponents of the regime four years ago in this city. They assume that it is “invoices” as part of the stark internal war “between Ortega supporters and Murillo supporters” in León.
Mayorga Mercado was an official who worked as a security guard at the León hospital. A person denounced on more than one occasion for mistreating people and abusing his authority at the medical center. He was a protégé of the political secretary of the Sandinista Front in this city, the one dismissed and later “reinstated” as part of the internal disputes, Evertz Delgadillo. Mayorga Mercado, who is in custody and accused of rape.

At the beginning of the week, he was presented as the alleged perpetrator of this crime, in the customary police report presented every Monday by the commissioner of the León police headquarters, Fidel Domínguez, an obedient repressor who has professed his loyalty to Rosario Murillo.
A party source, dissatisfied with the revenge against the militant, says that Mayorga Mercado “had a political job” at the Oscar Danilo Rosales Arguello School Hospital, Heodra, to monitor the staff of the care center. “He was a guard, but his tasks were political,” he says.
Although he had been a local official for six years, it was after 2018 that he collaborated with dismantling barricades and roadblocks from opponents of the regime, who “gave him the task of partisan surveillance.” “It was like a promotion for helping with the missions to bring peace to León by dismantling the barricades, he is a respectful militant,” say his colleagues.
Before the protests, Mayorga Mercado stood out as an active leader of the Sandinista Youth (JS), from the Carlos Núñez neighborhood, southeast of Sutiaba in León.
Later he served as representative of the Solidarity Promoter. “Did they have a rapist in the ranks? No. That is a setup against the compañero”, another militant complained. “Before 2018, he was the right hand of Yaoska Urbina, current departmental coordinator of the Sandinista Youth (JS),” he adds.
“Of questioned methods, but always Sandinista”
Others recognize Mayorga Mercado as a disciplined militant, but criticized him for always fulfilling his tasks by resorting to “ideas that are not very healthy for the party.” This is also confirmed by Cristhian Castillo, a dissident of the Sandinista Front, who was persecuted and is now in exile.
“He was an expert in dirty strategies. This kid was in charge of recruiting gang members and vagrants from the León neighborhoods, to form a shock group and attack the anti-government protesters. His name was well known when he attacked the elderly that Wednesday, April 18, 2018, ”he said.
Castillo recounts that during the outbreak of April four years ago, the aforementioned served as the main aggressor in the demonstrations by the regime. “Every day he convinced those who were with him that they had to physically and verbally attack young opponents, who were at more than 500 barricades and two large roadblocks in the city of León, which held thousands of people as a form of resistance. who were protesting against the Ortega-Murillo government”, he narrates.

I know Harbin well, before being a paramilitary they branded him as a harasser of girls, when he was a security guard at the Modesto Armijo de León public school,” says political prisoner Franklin Morales, released in 2019 under the criticized amnesty law.
It was the scourge for many former politicians
Young people who were members of the Union of Political Prisoners in León (UPPN), confirmed for this report that Mayorga Mercado, now in disgrace for challenging the Murillo bloc in León, testified in the trial against former political prisoners Amaya Coopens, Sergio Midense, Byron Estrada, Nairoby Olivas and other student leaders.
The Leonese opposition from exile assures that the man now being prosecuted for an alleged common crime was responsible for many deaths of people who were on the barricades.

“Lately, Harbin believed he was the owner of the León hospital, no one could approach the center with a cell phone, because they ordered it to be removed from the place or notified the department. A nurse at the care center also revealed that the man “sowed terror” among security guards, cleaning people and medical personnel. “Many people were fired after he misinformed them. The dismissals came from the Front Secretariat, they heard it a lot there, ”he said.
Silence in the Secretariat
Although no details of the alleged violation of which he was accused were given, the Sandinista radio station owned by the militant Tránsito Téllez, Radio Venceremos and La Estación de la Amistad, published a police report, which they later deleted. On social networks, the people of Leon attributed the action to the division crisis that the party is suffering in this city. “Lawsuit on both sides,” they said.
“He was a political operator for Delgadillo, they were his eyes and ears. The fact that he is in prison now is not a good sign for the block that opposes Murillo in León, that means that she is going with everything against the nonconformists, but this attack is only going to worsen the crisis,” said a militant.
After the accusation against Mayorga Mercado, there is silence in the party secretariat. “It is unfortunate that they use people and when there are complaints they damage their lives like this. The Sandinistas only used this kid with a violent character. That is why they put him to direct groups of clashes in 2018 and later to monitor the hospital with his position as prosecutor,” a dissident from the red and black ranks, who is still in the city of León, told this outlet and, therefore, asked anonymity.
At the end of 2022 and at the beginning of this 2023, scandals, dissidences and internal discontents of the already beaten base that the Sandinista party has in the city of León have been unleashed.
