The Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh) denounced that in two days the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo increased “terror” against political prisoners and religious leaders.
The agency pointed out five recent repressive actions, among which are the confirmation of the sentence against political prisoners Samantha Jiron Y Evelyn Pinto, both held in the “La Esperanza” Women’s Penitentiary System, in Tipitapa. Likewise, the Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) rejected the appeal in favor of the opponents.
He also pointed out the refusal of the Ortega dictatorship to continue denying visits to prisoners held in the Judicial Assistance Directorate (DAJ) in Managua, who have been held incommunicado for more than a month with their families.
«The silence between visit and visit today is aggravated by the prolongation without argument of the same. Did they suspend the visits? Will it be a form of punishment or retaliation? Against whom? They are torturing families”, questioned the Cenidh.
More repression against the Catholic Church
On the other hand, human rights defenders recalled that Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, bishop of the Diocese of Matagalpa, spent 74 days kidnapped by Daniel Ortega’s Police, and that his physical and psychological state is unknown.
They also emphasized the recent arrest of the father Enrique Martinez Gamboapastor of the Santa Martha Church, of the Archdiocese of Managua, kidnapped on Thursday, October 13, as reported by Father Uriel Vallejos on his Twitter social network account.

The priest Martínez Gamboa joins the list of priests imprisoned by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo in the context of repression against the Catholic Church.
The Cenidh announced the oral and public trial of six religious and one layman who accompanied Monsignor Álvarez for 15 days in the Episcopal Curia of Matagalpa.
“In just two days the Ortega Murillo regime commits these crimes in Nicaragua, plus those that are not known. We demand the end of the repression and the immediate release of all political prisoners. #FreedomNow #VisitsNow #SOSIglesiaNi» demanded the human rights organization.
Since mid-2022, the repression in Nicaragua has intensified. The Ortega regime has imprisoned, prosecuted, persecuted and besieged religious, opponents, journalists, human rights defenders, among others. Currently the number of political prisoners has exceeded 200.
