Havana Cuba. — The prisoner Giordano Quintanal Díaz, confined in the maximum rigor penitentiary center of big Valleylocated in the municipality of La Lisa, west of Havana, denounced before CubaNet who has been unjustly imprisoned for almost a year.
Quintanal Díaz, 49 years old and a resident of the El Canal neighborhood (Cerro), explained to this newspaper that he was arrested in July of last year as a result of an incident with agents of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) in which he did not even was involved.
The inmate points out that on July 18, 2021, a few days after the anti-government protests of July 11 and 12, his two brothers-in-law took to the streets with a poster that read the phrase “Homeland and life.” Both protesters, and other neighbors who intervened in their defense, ended up fighting with two police officers who were trying to stop them.
According to the prisoner, the next day, the police came to his house to arrest him. However, Giordano Quintanal Díaz himself maintains that at the time of the July 18 incident he was in a queue to buy chicken at the Maravilla store, on Calzada del Cerro.
After an open trial against him, he was finally sentenced to five years in prison for the alleged crime of attack, despite the fact that —according to the testimony of his wife— during the trial it became clear that he was not identified. in the video of the events.

A bricklayer by profession, Giordano Quintanal Díaz revealed to this newspaper that he had undergone kidney surgery and that, during his captivity, he contracted dermatitis caused by sewage leaking from the bathrooms into the cell.
The inmate adds that the prison doctors recommend that he ask his family for some medicine, because in the prison there are no medicines to relieve him.
Quintanal Díaz’s wife claims to have requested medical assistance for him on countless occasions, albeit without success. She also emphasizes that Giordano is in very poor condition, with the skin on his arms and legs completely broken, symptoms that the prison describes as poorly treated scabies.
