The education unions achieved an important victory this weekend in the elections of new councilors of the Central Directive Council (Codicen) of the National Administration of Public Education (Anep), after the three lists of the Coordinator of Trade Unions of the Teaching were imposed in the elections.

The Electoral Court had computed just over 44,500 votes by Sunday afternoon, and the count showed that the three lists obtained:

  • 5,685 for the Uruguayan Federation of Teaching (List 1)
  • 6,231 for the National Federation of Secondary Education Teachers (Fenapes, List 11)
  • 5,863 for List 30
  • 301 to the motto 1-11-30.

In total, they add up to 18,080.

For its part, the lists related to the ruling party barely reached 6,767 votes, which were divided into:

  • 1,170 for List 3
  • 3,480 for List 4 (founded by Robert Silva)
  • 741 for List 21
  • 1,178 for List 33
  • 198 for the motto 3-4-21-33.

Until the last cutoff, 6,271 blank votes had been counted, 2,139 null and 11,256 observed, which will be reviewed by the Court.

The results are not definitive yet but everything indicates that the trend is irreversible. Thus the things, the unions remain with the two positions subject to election of the Codicen. Adémar Cordones, alternate from List 4, headed by Robert Silva in 2015, has been displaced from his position; After occupying the position of president of the organization, he gave the chair to Cordones.
