The Foreign Relations Commission of the Republic will quote next Monday, August 18 to the Chancellor Elmer Schialer to report on the situation on the border with Colombia and the claim of the president of that country Gustavo Petro of ignoring our territorial sovereignty over Chinería Island.
This was reported by Congresswoman Heidi Juárez after assuming the leadership of the aforementioned working group representing the bench of Podemos Peru.
“Faced with border issues such as that of Chinería Island, the Commission will act with diplomatic determination and prudence, ensuring the unrestricted defense of national sovereignty and the protection of the rights of border communities in harmony with territorial and cultural diversity,” he said.
During the session, Juárez anticipated that there will also be decentralized sessions of the Foreign Relations Commission in vulnerable border areas.
“Today, more than ever, the State must be present in those areas,” he said, and in that context he announced that the premier will be convened and the members of the diplomatic service to report on the guidelines of foreign policy and the current situation of our border and international relations.
During the session, Congresswoman María del Carmen Alva added that “the best way in which this unreal border problem can be supported with Colombia is to be prudent and let diplomacy do its job, not hinder and not politicize the issue.”
“We have to be aware of that, the chancellor will report what is being done, but I ask everyone to have patience in this prudence and know that the Foreign Ministry has its times; let’s let them work, do what they should do and respect those times,” he said.
In that same line Edgard Reymundo (popular democratic block) pronounced, who added that “the country is going through a difficult situation due to the open provocation of Colombian president Gustavo Petro.”
“We cannot subtract from that problem. Of course we must act with enough responsibility, prudence and maturity; we have to be firm in defense of sovereignty but at the same time be permanently informed,” he said.
