MIAMI, United States. — The United States Coast Guard (USCG) repatriated 38 Cuban rafters who had been intercepted trying to reach the United States in recent days.
The entity reported on Twitter that the migrants were returned to the island by the crew of the Coast Guard Richard Etheridge.
The Coast Guard also warned that rafters who are intercepted will be sent back to the country from which they came.
“Crews from the Coast Guard and partner agencies will detain you at sea before reaching Marquesas Key, Dry Tortugas or Florida. He will be repatriated to his country of origin or departure, ”said that federal agency.
Last Sunday, the Coast Guard itself had returned to Cuba a group of 82 migrants this Sunday. The Cubans were repatriated by the crew of the Coast Guard Charles David Jr.
“Crews from the Coast Guard and partner agencies are in full force off the coast of Florida doing everything possible to stop illegal migration at sea,” Lt. Nicholas Fujimoto said at the time.
Since last October 1, the Coast Guard has intercepted and deported to Cuba more than 3,370 migrants from the island. The figure represents more than half of the 6,182 rafters who were detained during fiscal year 2022, which ended on September 30. .
