Representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) assured this Monday that the agency hopes to “work with the minister Silvina Batakis and her team to continue supporting Argentina”, after the resignation of Martin Guzman at the head of the Ministry of Economy.
The new minister was sworn in on Monday to her new position in a brief act in the White Room of the Casa Rosada, where the president Alberto Fernandez he took an oath.
In response to a query from the Télam agency, an IMF spokeswoman stated that “we wish the former minister Martin Guzman all the success in your future endeavours”. We look forward to “working with Minister Silvina Batakis and her team to continue supporting Argentina and its people strengthen macroeconomic stability and address its profound challenges to lay the foundation for more sustainable and inclusive growth.”
The new minister met this Monday with her Productive Development counterpart, Daniel Scioliand with the president of the Central Bank, Miguel Pescewith whom he agreed to maintain a work agenda.
In her first words as Economy Minister, Batakis declared herself in favor of achieving fiscal balance and said that her management will be focused on “move in that direction”.
“I believe in fiscal balance And I think that we have to move in that direction“, said Batakis in his first public statements in which he anticipated that his management, and at the request of the President, will be based on “three fundamental pillars”: fiscal solvency, the continuity of the government’s economic program and the increase in exports.
“We are convinced that Argentina’s course has to do with the fiscal management of our accounts, with following the economic program that the President has set out and ensuring that Argentina has more exports and revalue our currency,” he assured.
