Brazilian actress and writer Fernanda Torres will be honored by the Critics Choice Awards in the Actress – international film category for her performance in I’m Still Here.
The honor is part of the 4th edition of the Celebration of Latino Cinema and Television, which will take place on October 22nd, at the Egyptian Theater, in Hollywood, in the United States.
“The event honors outstanding performances and works, both on screen and off, from the Latin entertainment industry”, informs the Critics Choice Awards, on its Instagram profile.
On social media, the actress celebrated the announcement and said that the initiative proposed by the critics association represents “one of the main awards in the world of cinema”.
Directed by Walter Salles, I’m Still Here stars Fernanda Torres, Fernanda Montenegro and Selton Mello and is based on the autobiographical book by Marcelo Rubens Paiva.
In the film, the character Eunice Paiva – played by Fernanda Torres – is a mother of five children and is forced to reinvent herself after the family suffers a violent and arbitrary act on the part of the government during the military dictatorship.
The film was chosen to represent Brazil in the dispute for a spot for Best Film International at Oscar 2025. The announcement was made by the Brazilian Cinema Academy after a unanimous decision by the selection committee.
I’m Still Here it received the award for Best Screenplay at the Venice Film Festival and was shown at the Toronto and San Sebastián festivals.
