The director of Transportation, Pablo Menoni, reported that the Municipality of Montevideo plans to install new “shelters” at the capital’s bus stops starting in September 2023. For her part, Mayor Carlina Cosse reported that last week she signed the Specification that will serve as the basis for the tender.
The document will enter the Departmental Board to be “enriched” and approved. Then the tender will be held and, after the award, the beneficiary company will have 150 days to start the works, as reported by newspaper El Observador.
Menoni explained that the new shelters will have rear and side protection – “in cases where the width of the sidewalk allows it” – with tempered glass to provide more “comfort” to users.
digital screens
Inside the shelter, “real-time information” will be provided. “Through a 24-inch screen, you will be able to see not only the lines that pass but also the estimated time of arrival of the buses and other data as if they are accessible units,” he indicated. The screen will also mark if there are diversions or emergencies.
On the other hand, there will be another 70-inch digital screen for “dynamic advertising exploitation”. “We reserve that for every five minutes of publicity, there will be one minute for information of general interest to the administration,” Menoni explained.
The shelters will have three buttons in order to improve accessibility: two for people with visual disabilities and one for those with physical difficulties. The first will play the lines that pass through the stop through a loudspeaker, the second the estimated time of arrival of each line and the third will activate a light to notify the driver that a person who needs assistance is going to board and “can arrive with time and Caution when stopping.
As reported by El Observador, the shelters will also have points to recharge cell phones via USB.
The specifications to which the aforementioned media accessed specifies that at the end of the initiative the concessionaire must have installed 440 new metal stops and have recovered another 275 made of wood. In addition, they will install 110 advertising screens and the same number of information panels.
