Elected this Saturday (1st) to preside over the Federal Senate in Biennium 2025-2026, Senator Davi Alcolumbre (Brazil-AP Union), in his first speech in the plenary of the house, said he was not looking for protagonism. “That’s not what moves me here. I want to be a catalyst for this Senate. And help build the consensus that are necessary to improve the lives of the Brazilian population. ”
“Make sure I am still the same. I preside over the Federal Senate, but I am still a senator, like each of the masters and the ladies. Neither bigger nor better than anyone, ”he said. Alcolumbre recalled that, exactly six years ago, he was elected for the first time to preside over the Senate – at the time, with 42 votes.
“Six years later, with the political unit of parties that think differently, the panel marks 73 votes to our candidacy. This clearly represents the broad political backing that this plenary is giving the collective project that we build together. This broad support, even in a context with several applications, demonstrates that the Federal Senate is united and knows the direction in which it intends to walk, ”he said.
“This presidency, which is not only the Senate, but also of the National Congress begins, therefore, with the added strength of the senators and senators who supported this bill and will be part of this political and institutional construction, fundamental to the Brazilian State.”
Alcolumbre reaffirmed that during its presidency the Senate will be “a house of equals, where each senator and each senator will have voice and space, regardless of its ideology or political orientation.” “The strength of the Senate presidency comes from the greatness of this bicentennial institution which is the Federal Senate. And he only remains great, we all know, by the sum of the strength. ”
“We will work for Brazil, promote employment generation, economic growth, social development, protect public health, give quality education to Brazilians and also, very importantly, to be aware every day to the issue of the security of Brazilians. ”
“Everyone here we are genuinely imbued with the mission of contributing to the solution of the present problems and the construction of a more prosperous and fairer future for Brazil, but especially for millions of Brazilians who expect this from this house. Not from the Senate, not the House. But of the Legislative Power of Brazil, ”he concluded.
