Calakmul, Camp., When asked when someone who has dedicated his life to the struggle for social transformation can retire from public life, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador responded on Sunday: when there is relief
.
At the inauguration of the site museum of the Calakmul archaeological zone, the president said that he is closing his cycle in politics and that he will retire peacefully to Palenque because the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, will be his successor.
Accompanied by the future president, as well as by Governor Layda Sansores and various federal officials, the President toured the vestiges of this ancient great city of the Mayan world, after which he led a ceremony in which Sansores dedicated a farewell speech to him in which she made a complaint because she said that he never explained to her when to stop the social struggles.
Layda said, when is the limit, when can one retire? Well, I could tell you: when there is relief.
said López Obrador at the foot of the main structure of Calakmul.
He recalled the defeats and electoral frauds he faced throughout his career and said that at one point he thought about forgetting about the possibility of being a presidential candidate, but that he decided to continue forward and follow his principles.
“But now it is different, completely different, I can now go to Palenque without worry, because there is a replacement: we have an elected president, soon to be constitutional president, first class, an experienced, prepared, sensitive, good-natured, good-hearted, honest woman, she is the best thing that could have happened to our country in these times.
Claudia Sheinbaum is the one who will continue the transformation, with her own style, with the sensitivity of women, with the intelligence and determination of women, and that is why we are going to do very well.
For her part, Sheinbaum stated that it is no coincidence that López Obrador visited Calakmul before leading the Grito de Independencia ceremony and when judicial reform is already a fact, since this is one of the moments of greatest sovereignty and freedom in the country.
Today we also know that the reform of the Judicial Branch is a fact. It is perhaps one of the moments of greatest independence, sovereignty, freedom and democracy in our country. September 15, 2024 remains engraved in our hearts.
said the president-elect.
There will be no regression, there will be no return to the past. This is the path forged by our people. Going forward there will be more democracy, more freedom, more independence and more sovereignty, and above all the well-being of our people and this historic recovery of what we are as Mexicans.
The governor said goodbye to López Obrador, as it was the last time he visited Campeche as President. He dedicated himself to changing consciences and pursuing a dream, and with that faith, because he is a man of unwavering will, he sowed the fruit in the winter of Mexico and today we reap the fruit. Thank you.
