The president of the Economic Commission of the Congress of the Republic, Ilich Lopez (Popular Action), considered as populist proposals all bills that seek to promote withdrawals from pension funds administered by the AFPs and Compensation for Time of Service (CTS).
“They are populist measures, I don’t know who presented them, but it seems to me to be a populist vision of the legislative part. I understand it because we are close to elections and surely some want people to like them in these moments before the elections,” he said.
Indeed, in the Economy Commission there are currently five bills that attempt to restore the withdrawal of 95.5% of private pension funds and two that aim to extend the withdrawal of 100% of the CTS until December 31, 2025 and 2026. , respectively.
Generate employment
In response to these legislative initiatives, López planned that the public policies that are approved should be oriented towards the economic development of the country with the objective of having more work for the well-being of all Peruvians.
“Our country must be structured on the basis of economic development. What do I mean? We must promote work, generate employment, seek legislative proposals that generate, for example, an expansion of the tax base or formalization, because more than 70% live informally and these measures do not help the majority of people, but rather a small sector that They have a permanent job and it leaves them helpless in the event of a possible cessation of their work,” he explained.
Regarding the fact that this is his opinion as president of the Economy Commission, but that it is the congressmen who finally decide whether or not to approve a certain project, the parliamentarian stated that his position is oriented towards the protection of workers.
“The presidency of the Economy Commission has a position regarding ensuring the safety of workers. These bills are going to have to follow their procedures. We have 900 bills in the committee and we are going to see them in the order of priority they have,” he concluded.
