Ilenia Medina: Extremists have distanced themselves from politics and have become involved in violence

National Assembly (AN) deputy Ilenia Medina said that extremist sectors of the opposition have left politics aside and have become involved in plans for violence.

The parliamentarian commented this on Tuesday when she was interviewed on the program “Café en la Mañana” on VTV, where she pointed out the need to debate legal instruments to preserve peace, such as the draft Law Against Fascism, Neofascism and Similar Expressions that is currently in public consultation.

He explained that for some time now the opposition, who “feel superior”, have been trying to impose themselves on the political parties that support them.

“These sectors have tried to eliminate the democratic process that has been taking place in Venezuela since the arrival of Commander Hugo Chavez,” she added, as quoted by the VTV website.

In this regard, he stated that the draft law discusses the definition of fascism “as an ideological position based on motives of racial superiority that assumes violence as a method of action.”

The parliamentarian questioned the extreme right’s use of young people to create chaos, and therefore asked the authorities to investigate parents who use minors abroad to incite hatred.

He also said that the far right never presented the vote counting records requested by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), describing the actions by this sector of the opposition to generate violence and instability as a setup.
