An earthquake of magnitude 6.0 was recorded this Tuesday night in the Tumbes region, as reported by the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) through its social networks.
The earthquake, with a depth of 70 kilometers, was felt with great intensity in different districts of Tumbes and generated concern among the population.
According to initial reports, numerous neighbors left their homes after feeling the strong tremor, in search of safe areas.
However, local authorities and response agencies indicated that so far no material damage or personal victims have been reported.
For its part, the Hydrography and Navigation Directorate of the Peruvian Navy stated that this event “does not generate a tsunami warning”ruling out risks on the northern coast of the country. The entity maintains constant monitoring of maritime conditions in the event of possible aftershocks.
The IGP recalled that Peru is located in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the most seismic areas on the planet, so he urged citizens to remain calm and always be prepared for this type of emergency.
In addition, he urged the population to remain calm in the face of seismic movements, to have an emergency backpack prepared and to actively participate in the drills promoted by the authorities.
Specialized institutions continue to collect information on the impact of the earthquake in the border region.
