The misinformation about its ecological role and its nature has contributed to suffering abuse, running over and being unjustly hunted.
News Colombia.
Although its appearance generates rejection in many people, the Tsoorn, also known as chuchas, are fundamental Marsupial mammals for the environmental balance in Colombia. However, misinformation about their behavior and ecological function has made them victims of abuse, run over and hunt.
These species, related to kangaroos and koalas, fulfill an essential role: they help control pests, disperse seeds and favor reforestation. It is estimated that in Colombia at least 38 species of tsigüeadas live, which usually inhabit forests and move mainly at night.

With their small body, elongated snout, large eyes and a presile tail that allows them to easily climb, the tsnizas are omnivorous. They feed on fruits, small vertebrates, insects and even birds, contributing to the control of invasive species.
They are not aggressive, on the contrary: they are docile and nervous animals, which flee before human presence. Therefore, if you see a Tsarigüeya in your surroundings, it is best not to intervene and allow you to follow your path. They are completely harmless and, far from representing a danger, they provide a valuable service to nature.
Threats and calls to protection
The greatest threat to these species is the destruction of their habitat, which has caused many tsorigüeyas to migrate to urban areas. This exposes them to be run over, attacked by pets or even hunted for human consumption in some communities.
Environmental organizations and authorities call to protect these animals, recognize their ecological value and sensitize citizens about their importance. Taking care of the tsiragnostas is taking care of the ecosystems that also benefit us all.
