Morena’s coordinator in the Senate, Ignacio Mier, maintained that there has been “scrupulous” management of the parliamentary group’s resources, but he promised to make transparent the management of the budget items that each bench receives in that Chamber.
This information, which was uploaded to the Senate’s transparency page during the legislature corresponding to Enrique Peña Nieto’s six-year term, stopped being made public since Morena and its allies are the majority force in the Legislature.
Not even because of the obligation to make transparent the use of the Senate budget, which this year exceeds 5 billion pesos, was this done in the last legislature (2018 to 2024), which had Ricardo Monreal as president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo), nor during the year and a half of Adán Augusto López Hernández at the head of that governing body.
Yesterday, in a brief interview, Ignacio Mier promised to establish transparency and make public the money that is allocated to Morena, PT, PVEM, PAN, MC and PRI, which are those that are exercised opacity.
“We have to do a timely review with the board of directors, because the organic and administrative structure and the processes and manuals that were in place, for example, in the Chamber of Deputies, are not the same.”
He explained that initially in the Senate there is an Administration Commission, while in San Lázaro it is a committee, a governing body that must upload all agreements to the transparency page.
The cherry coordinator announced that he will speak with the president of the Administration Commission, chaired by José Ramón Gómez Leal, also from Moreno, so that they can also upload the agreements that are made to the Senate page.
Mier defended the financial management of his predecessor, Adán Augusto López. He said that as vice coordinator of the Morena group he was able to verify that the administration of the resources “was scrupulous,” in addition to being endorsed by the other forces that make up Jucopo. However, he added, if procedures need to be improved, “we are going to do it.”
It will be reviewed and updated, he insisted, that the Senate complies with all transparency obligations.
Although he has not yet made any changes, Mier is expected to carry out a review, since the majority of the Senate leadership is headed by Tabasco residents close to López Hernández. These are the General Secretariat, the general directorates of Administration, Material Resources, Acquisitions and Events, as well as the Technical Secretariat of Morena.
The Puebla politician must also decide on the direction of the Congress Channel, because former senator Raúl Paz Alonso is still in charge.
It has not been possible to name the new director because the Bicameral Canal Commission of Congress has not been installed, almost a year and a half into the legislature.
