The Executive Power ordered the intervention of the Casa de Galicia mutual society with the displacement of its authorities for a period of up to one year, as a result of the collective medical assistance institution presenting significant imbalances in its normal operation. In addition, it appointed two auditors. The resolution signed by the president, Luis Lacalle Pou, and the Minister of Health, Daniel Salinas, is dated October 26.
However, the Casa de Galicia board of directors assures that since yesterday and until this Wednesday, October 27 at 5:00 p.m. they had not received any formal notification of the Executive’s resolution, which shows that Salinas’ intention “was from the beginning to intervene the institution”.
In this context, Iglesias released a copy of the resolution of the Ministry of Public Health, signed by Minister Daniel Salinas, where it says in its operative part “to urge the Civil Association of Casa de Galicia to within a period of five calendar days certify having corrected the situation of economic and financial imbalance under warning of its intervention or liquidation ”.
According to Iglesias, the document was received by the authorities of the mutual company on Tuesday night. “When on Wednesday we had to appear before the citizens and the partners in defense of our institution and we had to point out that they were lying, it was true that they were lying. The incredible thing is that the minister continued to lie ”.
Elections
Regarding the elections of authorities of the institution, which is scheduled for next Sunday, Iglesias assured that “they will be carried out.”
“The statutes of Casa de Galicia establish that next Sunday, when our mandate is three years old, we must call an election. The lists are in, so we are aiming for a large vote. When we are formally intervened and communicated, the auditor will decide whether to suspend the elections or not, although I want to imagine that the Casa de Galicia statute will not be violated, and the partners will be able to continue showing their support and commitment, “said Iglesias.
In the event that the elections are not held, “the responsibility shall be assumed by the Executive Power.”
“But, I can’t believe that happens, the statute that belongs to the partners would be violated and we would get into another type of legal, juridical problem. I cannot imagine that the Executive Branch makes a decision of these characteristics, ”remarked the head of Casa de Galicia.
On the other hand, Iglesias said that despite the fact that there have been overseers in the institution for four months, only these days the reports are being delivered to the National Board of Health (JUNASA). “The JUNASA is passed over, they ignore it, they do not summon it and they do not give it the reports, it is a very strange thing.”
