Santo Domingo.- “We will continue modernizing our institution and decentralizing the normative part so that each sub-center works in a more agile and adequate way, we have a great work plan to promote the development of the university population and the country.”
These plans are part of the challenges of Dr. Jorge Asjana David in case of reaching the rectory of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), as of June 15, when the new authorities of that academy 2022-26 will be elected.
In addition to concluding the projects that due to the pandemic of the Covid-19 have not been able to materialize how to transform the curriculum and convert it into another based on competencies, the academic intends to increase the enrollment of doctors in the country.
“That is, professionals dedicated to research, with PHD, and for that we are going to expand the official doctoral programs of the UASD in coordination with other universities and strengthen research institutes at the national level in order to solve the great problems of society”, explained Asjana David.

The medical surgeon, with four decades of professional practice at the UASD, who registered his candidacy on Monday before the Central Electoral Commission of that academy, said that he has in his portfolio the support for Mipymes (Small and Medium Enterprises) and incubators where young people they will develop their businesses.
He said that his team believes in quality education and defending an open and participatory university. Hence, all those who defend the great alliance that they have formed are betting that the UASD continues to be the main educational entity in the country.
Along with Asjana David, they registered their candidacies before the Central Electoral Commission, chaired by Dr. Enerio Rodríguez, the team that would accompany him as vice-chancellors Bautista López García, from Extension; Alexis Martínez, Administrative; Rosel Fernández, Professor and Amparo Céspedes, Research and Postgraduate, as well as other candidates for other elective positions.
Electoral process
Asjana sees the UASD election process as an example of democracy, and is convinced that it will be the polls that will decide who will be the winners.
“The UASD has always given chairs of organization, tolerance, democracy, at the moment the surveys place us in front of the other candidate,” Asjana commented.
He said that his goal is not simply to win, but to implement the necessary changes to make UASD a better university.
