If approved, the cost of SOAT would increase: bill that advances in Congress and has more than one concerned

According to what was revealed by Fasecolda, said project would force insurers to make a new report of victims of traffic accidents and would have the purpose of “combating fraud and improving mobility.”

During this Tuesday, a new controversy has been generated around the Mandatory Traffic Accident Insurance, SOAT, in Colombia.

The situation has arisen after the pronouncement and warning of federation of Insurers Colombians, Fasecolda, around a bill that would increase the cost of said insurance.

Miguel Gómez, president of the entity, recalled that progress has already been made in Congress and the fourth and last debate that would endorse the project that would modify this important insurance is ready.

As the Semana Magazine recalled:

  • «The initiative, according to Ana María Castañeda (who has been a rapporteur for the proposal whose authors are, among others, Roy Barreras, Rodrigo Arturo Rojas and Diego Patiño), seeks to reduce evasion, which in the country is equivalent to 48% of all the car pool”.

As well as reducing “the accident rate that claims hundreds of lives in the country, with figures that reach five million victims in seven years.”

But beyond these arguments, Fasecolda warns that the proposal that is being discussed in Congress “could lead to this insurance becoming more expensive and increase evasion.”

I would raise the price

In its publication, the magazine specifies that it is article 11, in which they indicate that:

  • “All Soat insurers must use technological tools to verify road accidents without affecting timely care and, in addition, it establishes that they report said accidents to Runt every month.”

Likewise, they specified that according to what was stated by Fasecolda, it is “an unfeasible proposal.”

This “given that the Soat insurance companies find out about the occurrence of an accident, in general, until they file the claim for the payment of compensation. As a rule, this can happen up to two years after the events,” published Semana.

The measure would be “an additional expense”

Another of the details that attract attention and that Miguel Gómez, president of Fasecolda, revealed in his interview with Revista Weekis that imposing said modification in the information reporting system would not make sense.

  • “”It makes no sense to impose a new information report on insurance companies when health service providers, which in this case are the primary source of all the care they provide to an injured person in traffic accidents, are already obliged to make the report by order of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
