Idaan informs that the Federico Guardia Conte water treatment plant will continue to operate at 90% of its capacity

The Institute of National Aqueducts and Sewers (Idaan) communicated on Saturday night that, during the process of operating the newly installed motor/pump assembly, a lubricant leak was detected on the motor shaft, which forced to stop the operation to check and repair the cause of the leak.

Due to this, the Federico Guardia Conte water treatment plant will continue to operate at 90% of its capacity for the next 72 hours.

With the support of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), these works will be carried out urgently.

“We will be carrying out some actions to adjust the system to achieve a better distribution of drinking water at high points while the operation of the plant is normalized,” the entity said in a statement.

All critical points such as hospital centers have not been affected, however, a contingency plan has been activated for distribution by tanker trucks when necessary.

The Idaan apologized for the inconveniences presented, and reminded customers to make their reports to the 311 hotline.
