IDAAN assures that they take 30 thousand gallons of water daily to the David prison

After a relative of a prisoner in David prison, Chiriquí province, denounced the alleged lack of drinking water inside the prison, the director of the National Aqueduct and Sewer Institute (IDAAN) in the province, Máximo Miranda, He said that the water supply is being given to the members of the Penitentiary System of the prison and to those deprived of liberty.

Miranda assured that there are four wells that supply the prison, but that they face problems with the provision of drinking water because one of those wells is in poor condition, so they are in the repair stage.

He explained that as a palliative they are being supplied through the use of tank cars.
“Currently we have a problem with a well, which we have to repair and we also have problems with some African bees that have not allowed us to enter to make their repairs,” he said.
He added that they take almost 30,000 gallons of water to the prison every day to meet the demand that exists.

After the complaint of lack of water, this Thursday, the Chiriquí regional Ombudsman’s Office carried out an inspection in the prison to verify the lack of water.

The inspection was carried out by human rights officers from the Ombudsman’s Office who contacted the Director of the Penal Center, Pedro Flores, who confirmed that tank vehicles were maintained daily distributing the vital liquid, to guarantee supply to private individuals.
