Ictusplus, an application on strokes (stroke) and the attention of the people who suffer from them, is currently in the generalization phase in Cuba.
The application was created “in order to give these people a more effective monitoring, and collect useful information for the family and health personnel,” review The newspaper Granma In a work published on the subject of having commemorated on Tuesday on World Brain Day.
Dr. Ángel Oshumaré Chacón, leader of the Ictusplus team, pointed out to the environment the value of this creation focused on a condition that results in the third cause of death in Cuba and in the world, the second of disability and the first dementia.
The specialist explained that the strokes leave “a lot of physical and psychological sequelae” and that the new application seeks to contribute to the training of family members and other people who are responsible for the care and recovery of the patients.
For the authors of this computer tool, whose design dates from last year, it can also be useful for medical students, for health care professionals and patients themselves.

Connect technology and health
According to Dr. Chacón, “Ictusplus starts from a study of quality of life and the need to connect technology with health services.” With that idea, it has already been presented in several scientific events of national and international scope, says the report of Granma.
The application, according to the specialist, “includes all phases of the health-disease process.”
In this sense, “it covers from the diagnosis and the procedures to continue before the signs of the disease, to the way of treating the Postictus patient, in order to improve aspects such as muscle strength, and contribute to family dynamics based on their care,” says the environment.
Even when the Ictusplus leader recognizes that there is a large amount of bibliography related to the subject on the Internet, he emphasizes that the application, which has already been patented, “has the peculiarity of adapting this information to the Cuban reality.”
In addition, it allows the information to be “affordable to all types of audiences, from a simpler and more understandable language.”
