ICRC recovered the bodies of three missing persons in rural Dabeiba

In the rural jurisdiction of the municipality of Dabeiba, in western Antioquia, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) advanced work for the recovery of three bodies which would be that of a father, his son and another man missing since 2006.

The entity arrived at the place at the request of the family of these people, who knew where their loved ones were, but for reasons related to the armed conflict they had not been able to recover them.

Once there was certainty about the place where the bodies of these people were found, an ICRC humanitarian mission headed to the site from Montería and Medellín, composed of an interdisciplinary working group of forensic experts, psychologists and logistics personnel of which some relatives of the three men were also part.

Gerardo Moloeznik, ICRC delegate for protection issues, indicated that the issue of disappearances in the context of the armed conflict It is a matter of vital importance for the entity and with which it is fully committed. given the repercussions that this form of victimization has on family and friends.

“In our humanitarian action we seek to provide comprehensive care that begins when the family approaches to request the search of their disappeared person and accompany them with guidance on due process and mediation in the search, if possible,” Moloeznik said.

Precisely, it is expected that the International Red Cross will continue its work in this case once the Institute of Legal Medicine verifies and confirms the identities of the remains found.
