The new General Water Law contributes to putting “order” in this area, assured the head of the Ministry of the Interior (SG), Rosa Icela Rodríguez, when congratulating the Legislature for carrying out this step that avoids, she stated, the concentration of supply in a few hands.

This Friday, the official led the morning press conference at the National Palace due to the absence of President Claudia Sheinbaum, who was in Washington. In addition to the deputies and senators, the secretary recognized the groups from the social and private sectors that participated in the process, whether in favor or against.

And although he announced that the work tables will continue “to remove any doubts in this regard,” especially from agricultural producers, he stressed that the SG will listen to “absolutely all people, everyone, whether they are right or not.”

However, he expressed his concern about the effects on the population of the blockades of dissatisfied groups and about the attitude of those who sign agreements with the government and the next day ignore them. “Each of the concerns have already been addressed, (but) when the demonstrations continue for no apparent reason, without wanting to sit down at the table, then tell me: what is it?”

“It does happen to us, it does happen to us that in the afternoon they sign an agreement and the next day they do not comply and they continue saying that there is a disagreement about something that does not exist (…) That is what we sometimes ask ourselves: why? Because the impact on the population is what worries us.” He stressed that changes in the laws are necessary “to put order in all water management”, hence the necessary modifications will continue.

“The problems that exist are known; so, we are going to do it and we are going to do it well. We are always trying to do it hand in hand with the groups and we are going to continue doing it,” he stated.

“In Chihuahua the peasant leader Yako (Rodríguez) said that this is going to be an all-out war; People are also angry,” said an attendee in the morning, to which Rodríguez reported that agreements were reached the day before, even as the leaders announced it. “We believe in the word of the people who have a word, we will not believe in those who do not have a word.”

At noon, in accordance with the SG’s commitment to the press, this agency reported that agricultural producers stationed at international crossings in Chihuahua were beginning to lift blockades.

According to that morning report, the Puerto Palomas customs office was cleared and the removal of vehicles on the Córdoba-Américas, Gerónimo-Santa Teresa and Guadalupe-Tornillo roads began.

The SG trusted that in the next few hours the Zaragoza international bridge would be freed, thus closing the day of mobilizations.

The publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation of the General Water Law to open its entry into force will occur as soon as the corresponding procedure is carried out, added the Secretary of the Interior.
