The volume of the services sector in the country fell 0.4% in August this year compared to July. The drop came after two positive results from the sector, which had grown 1.4% in June and 0.2% in July. Compared to August last year, there was growth of 1.7%. There were also increases in the accumulated result for the year (2.7%) and in the accumulated result for 12 months (1.9%).

The drop from July to August was influenced by negative results in two of the five activities surveyed: the information and communication sector (-1%), which had risen 3.7% in the previous month; and transport (-0.4%), which presented the second consecutive drop, accumulating a loss of 2% in two months.

Growth

Two of the five activities analyzed showed expansion: other services (1.4%) and services provided to families (0.8%). Professional, administrative and complementary services remained stable.

The aggregate of tourist activities, which is analyzed separately by the IBGE survey, remained stable in the month, after falling 0.8% in July.

Nominal revenue from services varied 0.1% in relation to July and grew 7.5% compared to August last year, 7.5% in the year and 6.7% in the 12-month period.
