The activity of the Brazilian economy in December 2024 decreased by 0.7% compared to November, according to the BC’s economic activity index (IBC-BR) released today (17), in Brasilia, by the Central Bank.
IBC-BR is considered a species of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) flag. Even with the slowdown, the indicator notes a growth of 3.8% of the country’s economy last year.
The December result came after a 0.10% increase in November. Also according to the BC, compared to December 2023, the data show that the IBC-BR grew 2.4%. In the accumulated in 12 months the index also had an advance of 3.8%.

Already in the quarter ended in December, IBC-BR accused up 4.4% over the same quarter as last year.
IBC-BR is seen as a preview of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), officially calculated by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The index follows month by month economic activity and anticipates possible inflationary pressures.
