The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) will carry out a technical visit to Peru from December 20 to 22 to collect official information on the events that took place after the coup d’état perpetrated by the detained former president Pedro Castillo.
The international organization reported that it will send a group of representatives upon accepting the invitation of the Peruvian State. The Peruvian Foreign Ministry, meanwhile, specified that the agenda is being coordinated with the sectors involved.

“The IACHR appreciates the invitation of the Peruvian State to carry out a technical visit, which will take place from December 20 to 22; and recognizes this opening for the construction of channels of dialogue as a way to address social conflict, ”he published on his social networks.
Through a statement, the entity attached to the Organization of American States (OAS) also condemned the acts of violence that took place in different regions of the country between protesters and law enforcement.
“(It) makes a strong call to all the people involved to invest all efforts in a solution to the crisis through democratic channels and with the highest adherence to human rights,” he said.
In compliance with international commitments on human rights, Foreign Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi informs that the technical visit of the IACHR, at the invitation of Peru, will take place from December 20 to 22. The agenda is being coordinated with the IACHR and sectors involved.

According to figures from the Ombudsman’s Office, 22 people died as a result of the violent protests, 17 of them perished in the demonstrations while the rest died due to roadblocks.
