The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) granted precautionary measures in favor of citizen Angélica Patricia Chavarría Altamirano, the last partner of the retired general and former head of the Army Humberto Ortega Saavedra.
According to the resolution 04/2025issued on January 10 and published this Tuesday, the 14th, the IACHR asked the State of Nicaragua, led by dictators Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, to adopt the necessary conditions to “determine the situation and whereabouts” of Chavarría Altamirano, who She has been missing since the death of the former Army general in September 2024.
«Since May 19, 2024, Angélica Chavarría would be found together with her partner under house arrest and without the possibility of communication. However, after the death of his partner in September 2024, family members have not been able to find his fate. The state authorities would not have provided official information about his whereabouts or his current status either,” says part of the official note from the IACHR in which the resolution is reported.
The IACHR asks the Nicaraguan regime to “specify whether the beneficiary is in the custody of the State, the circumstances and conditions of her detention. In particular, inform about the place of their detention, allowing access to their legal representatives and family, as well as any necessary health care.
Likewise, it requests the State to detail, “within a period of 15 days from the date of notification of this resolution, the adoption of the required precautionary measures and to update said information periodically.”

In the resolution, approved on January 10, 2025, the Inter-American Commission warns that the granting of this precautionary measure and its adoption by the State “does not constitute a prejudgment of any violation of the rights protected in the applicable instruments.”
