At the beginning of the development of his agenda, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) He met this Monday morning with Vice President David Choquehuanca; with the Minister of Justice, Iván Lima; and with the Bolivian ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Héctor Arce Zaconeta.
The meeting was held at the facilities of the Vice Presidency, in the city of La Paz; however, as announced, none of the commissioners declared to the media about the meeting.
Hours before, the rapporteur for Bolivia, Joel Hernández, had already announced that during this week they will not give interviews as a Commission or individually until a new press conference scheduled for March 31, when, according to his version, the IACHR ” will be able to render before the media and Bolivian civil society (…) their preliminary conclusions”.
The IACHR began on Monday an on-site visit in Bolivia to observe the human rights situation and will carry out its work throughout the week in La Paz, Santa Cruz, Cochabamba and Sucre.
The commissioners’ agenda includes a series of meetings with all State bodies, representatives of civil society, and also provides for visits to some prisons, including the prisons where the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, and the Former President Jeanine Áñez.
“The purpose is to listen to all voices, meet with government authorities, state authorities, civil society organizations, activists, human rights defenders, unions, people deprived of liberty, in general with the population in the broadest sense. ”, Hernández said in a press conference held before the first meeting of the IACHR.
