“I wanted to leave from my time as an active player,” Eliut Torres said upon arriving in the US.

Madrid Spain.- Cuban former baseball player Eliut Torres Ramírez recently arrived in the United States crossing the border with Mexico through the Piedras Negras area.

As Torres himself assured the sports media Full Swing This Sunday, he arrived in the northern country after completing the migratory route through Latin America; from Haiti and through the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, among others, until reaching Mexico and then crossing the border.

“I wanted to leave since my time as an active player, but a great opportunity never presented itself. Now the economic situation in Cuba forced me to make this decision for my family. It was time, you couldn’t wait any longer. I had to do it now,” said the former gardener, a native of the Arroyo Naranjo municipality.

Eliut Torres Ramírez was one of the most talented Cuban baseball players of the beginning of this century. He coincided with renowned baseball players such as Kendrys Morales and Yulieski Gourriel (both also emigrated from Cuba).

Before arriving at the Industriales capital team, he was part of the youth national team that won the world championship held in 2002 in Canada.

Full Swing He recalled the decisive game between Industriales and Villa Clara, in which Eliut Torres “was the protagonist of a controversial play that led to the expulsion of manager Víctor Mesa. After that he was transferred to Metropolitanos, Havana’s defunct second team”.

Last July, the arrival in the United States of Artemiseño pitcher Misael Villa, who arrived in that country in a similar way, was revealed.

“I left Cuba with my ticket to Nicaragua on June 30 and arrived in the United States on July 13. Exactly thirteen days of crossing. It is impressive for the places you go through. I passed through four countries: Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico and my final destination here, the United States. The journey is very hard but thank God everything went well and I was able to get there without any problem”, explained Villa in conversation with CubaNet.

Among the many athletes who have left the country in recent months are the boxers Kevin Brown (67 kg) and Herich Ruiz (86 kg), the basketball player Neslier Raul Abreu, the fighter Christian Solenzal and the sprinter Jenns Fernandez.
