Mário Jardel, a former Porto and Sporting player, is participating in Big Brother Famous, a television program where he lives with other celebrities in the same place. During his stay at the house, the Brazilian commented that he had a strong episode with drugs in 2002 when he was wearing the Sporting shirt.
“In 2002, I overdosed on cocaine and stayed awake for seven days. This is not an example. I hired women and I stayed in that life thinking that nothing was going to happen to me, that everything was fineJardel said.
During his time at Sporting de Portugal, the striker started the 2002/03 campaign in a very poor state of form due to his personal situation and his addictions. Also, he wanted to leave the club. That year he was divorcing Karen Matzenbacher: “In December 2002, I was going to introduce myself, but there was a lot of commotion…Being a public person is not easy. We have a very high salary and, at my level, even more“.
Today, Jardel continues to fight against his drug addiction in order not to relapse: “I am very aware of my problem, of my daily struggle. What matters is that I’m alive and I say ‘no to drugs‘”.
