I am still willing to join forces: Zuluaga responds to the rejection of the 'Equipo por Colombia' coalition

Óscar Iván Zuluaga, presidential candidate of the Democratic Center, was officially pronounced after the majority of the members of the ‘Equipo por Colombia’ coalition showed themselves against joining this political alliance.

In an official communication, Zuluaga said that he will continue to promote his aspiration hand in hand with Uribismo, but warns that he is still willing to make alliances with related sectors for the presidential elections.

According to the political leader, it is a mistake to reject this union to open the doors to the sectors of the left that, according to him, represent a threat of regression and danger to democracy.

In context: Óscar Iván Zuluaga, increasingly far from joining the Equipo por Colombia coalition

“To achieve the first objective Colombia needs us united, without divisions, leaving individualism behind and working together to build a country that includes 50 million Colombians. Public leaders have the responsibility of knowing how to unite when the common good requires it, because no individual political calculation is above the future of the country, “he said.

He said that for now he will continue only as the official candidate of the Democratic Center. He pointed out that he has always acted honestly and did so to win the sole presidential candidacy of his community in a frank fight..

“I have won the presidential candidacy of my party widely, with a programmatic campaign, without confrontations and based on consensus. That has been and will continue to be my way of acting, in my public and private life, inside and outside the party. Therefore, the arguments and assessments outlined in recent messages have no basis ”, he indicated.

In that sense, he added that “my campaign continues, unshakable, and hand in hand with my party, I continue to add wills to build a government capable of improving the income and quality of life of Colombian families and fight against the insecurity and corruption that plague us ”.

This pronouncement by Óscar Iván Zuluaga comes after the candidate Alejandro Char joined the voices of Enrique Peñalosa, Juan Carlos Echeverry and Dilian Francisca Toro, who oppose an alliance with Uribismo before the first presidential round.

This position contrasts with what was said by Senator David Barguil, Conservative party candidate, who advocated for Zuluaga and asked that the candidate from the Democratic Center be accepted into the coalition ‘Equipo por Colombia’.
