The National Hurricane Center of the United States in its bulletin at 11:00 pm this Saturday explained that there is a warning of hurricane issued for a portion of the Dominican Republic coastline and potential life-threatening flooding and mudslides throughout Puerto Rico due to Fiona during the next few days.
While on the south coast of the Dominican Republic west of Cabo Caucedo to Barahona there is a tropical storm watch.
At 11:00 p.m. this Saturday the center of the tropical storm Fiona it was located near latitude 16.6 North, longitude 64.9 West. Fiona is moving somewhat erratically to the west-northwest near 13 km/h, and this motion is expected to continue through tonight.
A northwestward motion is forecast to begin on Sunday and continue through Tuesday. On the forecast track, the center of Fiona could move south of the US Virgin Islands. and approach Puerto Rico tonight, and move near or over Puerto Rico on Sunday afternoon or Sunday afternoon.
Fiona it will then move near the north coast of the Dominican Republic on Sunday night and near or as far east as the Turks and Caicos Islands on Tuesday on Monday.
Reports from an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft and Doppler radar data indicate that maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph with higher gusts and strengthening expected, with Fiona expected to become hurricane before reaching the south or southwest coast of Puerto Rico on Sunday.
Likewise, it expects strengthening on Monday and Tuesday while Fiona it moves over the southwestern Atlantic.
