Hurricane Fiona threatens the DR with flooding

Huracán Fiona amenaza RD con inundaciones

Santo Domingo.-The hurricane Fiona continues to increase the forces of its maximum winds from 130 to 140 kilometers per hour, which will cause flooding due to downpours, falling trees and zinc-roofed homes due to the fury of its winds this Sunday night and tomorrow Monday in the eastern regions and northeast of the Dominican Republic, according to reports from the National Meteorological Office (ONAMET).

Fiona it continued to move west/northwest at 13 km/h and at 4:00 in the afternoon it was located less than 200 kilometers from Saona Island, La Romana.

It is forecast that at dawn on Monday it will be located about 10 or 30 kilometers northeast of Cabo Engaño, La Altagracia.

At the ONAMET headquarters and all its stations scattered throughout the country, since Friday they have activated their emergency programs due to the possible passage of Fiona through the country.
