Huracán advanced this Wednesday to Phase 3 of the Copa Libertadores de América after defeating Boston River, from Uruguay, 1-0, and will arrive toned for next Sunday’s classic against San Lorenzo for the Professional League tournament.
After the goalless draw in the first leg in Montevideo, the “Globo” qualifying goal was scored by Uruguayan Matías Cóccaro, from a penalty, 51 minutes into the first half.
In the last stage of access to the group stage, Huracán will face Sporting Cristal, from Peru, who eliminated Nacional, from Paraguay, last Tuesday.
The first leg will be played next week at the Tomás Adolfo Ducó stadium in Parque de los Patricios and the rematch will be in Lima, Peru.
The winner will enter the group round of the most important tournament on the continent, which will be drawn on Wednesday the 22nd of this year at the Conmebol headquarters in Paraguay.
The Parque de los Patricios team made sure, at least, to play in the Copa Sudamericana in case they were unable to pass the Peruvians.
However, Diego Dabove’s team, who is undefeated in 2023, must first face the classic with San Lorenzo that will be played on Sunday at 7:15 p.m. at the “Palacio” Ducó.
The “quemeros” celebrated the round pass, but throughout the game they remembered the classic rival and asked for victory this weekend.
Huracán met one of the objectives of the year and maintains the line of what was done in 2022, despite the departures of important players such as Franco Cristaldo, Benjamín Garré and Lucas Merolla, in conflict with the club.
Despite the oppressive heat, Huracán had a good start to the game since at minute 12, the attacker Nicolás Cordero headed a good cross from the left of Jonás Acevedo. But the Brazilian referee Wilton Sampaio, at the request of the VAR, annulled it due to the advanced position of the striker.
“Globo” insisted on attacking on the wings and once again found the connection between Acevedo and Cordero, at 38m, but “9”‘s shot was incredibly saved on the line by Guzmán Rodríguez.
Due to the delay of the VAR and the pause to refresh, the first part was stretched and when it seemed that Huracán was not going to be able to break the zero, Cordero appeared again in the area and made the penalty, after a foul by Emiliano Sosa, at 48 minutes.
At 51m. Cóccaro took charge of the execution and defined the midfield hard to give Dabove’s team the well-deserved advantage and peace of mind.
In the second half, Huracán gave up the ball and the field to Boston River, but the Uruguayan team had difficulties creating danger in the local goal.
The clearest, however, was after 26 minutes with a shot by Jonathan Urretaviscaya that crashed off the crossbar.
After the scare, Huracán handled the ball better and was close to extending the result with two shots from the entered Juan Gauto and Lucas Castro that goalkeeper Silva saved.
“Globo” arrives at the classic undefeated this year and with a streak of eleven games without defeat at the Ducó, with ten wins and one draw.
Then, the serious team from Dabove will try to get a good result at home to defend in Peru and get into the group stage of the Copa Libertadores together with Boca, River, Racing, Argentinos Juniors and Patronato.
