Hunger strike, Federal Deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ)at dawn on Thursday (10), in Plenary 5 of Annex 2 of the House of Representatives, after the Ethics Council approve the opinion that asks for the revocation of his mandate for breach of parliamentary decorum, with 13 votes against 5.
Accused of assaulting an far-right militant, Braga claims to be the victim of political persecution for denouncing the secret budget.

This radical tactic is the result of a political decision: I will not be defeated by Arthur Lira and the secret budget. I go to the last consequences,” said Glauber, on a social network this morning (10).
In a statement, the parliamentarian’s press office said he is receiving medical follow -up, has normal blood pressure and maintains 91.7 pounds. “On the morning of Thursday, the parliamentarian ingested two glasses of isotonic, as well as water,” said the advisory.
Initially, federal deputy Luiza Erundina (PSOL-SP), 90, said she would join the parliamentarian in the hunger strike, but was convinced by colleagues to give up the strike and fight for other means.
Political persecution
Glauber Braga’s staff explained that the goal of the hunger strike is to denounce the political persecution against the deputybesides pressing for an outcome of the case. The deputy fears that the House definitely postpone the process, which is over a year.
Braga responds to a representation presented by the New Party, for assaulted and expelled from the House a militant of the Free Brazil Movement (MBL), who insulted the mother of the parliamentarian.
He argues that punishment is disproportionate if other cases of decorum in the House are considered. The parliamentarian claims that, in fact, he is the victim of political persecution filed by former mayor Arthur Lira (PP-AL) in partnership with the rapporteur of the case, Deputy Paulo Magalhães (PSD-BA).
According to Braga, Lira would have “bought” the opinion against him in exchange for secret budget resources for the rapporteur.
The PSOL deputy promises to appeal to the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ). If the CCJ confirms the vote of the Ethics Council, the House Plenary still needs to comment on the subject. PT and PSOL parties announced, on Wednesday (9), obstruction of the work of the House against decision of the Ethics Council.
The PT leader in the House, Deputy Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ), argued that the College of Party Leaders discuss the issue and maintained that the council’s vote was a mistake.
“We are bringing to the lap of this house a crisis of huge proportions. We have a deputy in a commission room on hunger strike. We have to talk to the president [da Câmara] Hugo Motta, ”he argued.
Secret budget
As a deputy, Glauber Braga is one of the main critics of the secret budget, name given to the execution of public resources through parliamentary amendments without identification of the author of the amendment and the destination of the money.
This mechanism for spending public money was questioned by PSOL in the Federal Supreme Court (STF), which required more transparency in public spending, forcing Congress to change the rules for payment of amendments.
By note, Deputy Arthur Lira denied the accusations and recalled that the accusation against Glauber was made by the New Party, not by him or his caption.

“For my part, I vehemently refute this illegitimate accusation on the part of Deputy Glauber Braga and I point out that any insinuation of the practice of irregularities, disregarded of a concrete element of evidence that sustains it, will give rise to the adoption of appropriate judicial measures,” said Lira.
THE Brazil agency He sought the advisory of Deputy Paulo Magalhães to comment on the accusations, but did not return until the publication of this report. The space is still open.
During the sessions of the Ethics Council, Deputy Magalhães did not respond to Glauber’s accusations. According to Magalhães’s staff, the rapporteur refused to argue with the accused “because that was his defense strategy.”
