The Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded this Thursday to Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai, “for his compelling and visionary work that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art,” according to argues the Academy.
Krasznahorkai is one of the most read and translated Hungarian writers, says a report by EFEwhich emphasizes that he is an internationally cult author with a work marked by a reality narrated with melancholy and humor.
The 2025 #NobelPrize laureate in literature László Krasznahorkai also looks to the East in adopting a more contemplative, finely calibrated tone. The result is a string of works inspired by the deep-seated impressions left by his journeys to China and Japan.

“I don’t want to lie. It would be very interesting to receive this award. However, I would be very surprised if I won it,” he said last February in an interview in Stockholm, during the presentation of his novel Herscht 07769.
Born in Gyula, in southern Hungary, on January 5, 1954, Krasznahorkai grew up in a communist dictatorship in which theoretical ideals fell far short of the gray reality, the Spanish agency points out.
