In a joint statement, a hundred civil society organizations today expressed their most “strong repudiation” of the attempted assassination of Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, as did different social and feminist associations, movements and groups.
The statement issued by more than 100 organizations highlighted that the attack on the Vice President “puts democracy at risk,” for which they demanded “clarification of what happened and effective action by the Justice Department.”
And they asked “those who represent us to act with the utmost responsibility.”
They also made “a call to the entire leadership and society as a whole” to “stop the advance of political violence and hate speech that threaten the peaceful coexistence that we have managed to build during these 40 years of democracy.”
“Since the assassination attempt against Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, the undersigned civil society organizations want to express our strong repudiation of an act that puts democracy at risk,” they maintained in the statement entitled “In defense of democracy”.

During the day this Friday they sent their support to the Vice President, the Argentine Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Federation (FALGBT +).
“The media and much of the leadership of the opposition political arch have been inciting hatred for a long time, and hatred promotes violence,” they pointed out.
The Argentine Cannabis Confederation, the Association of Argentine Psychiatrists, Catholics for the Right to Decide, Argentine Rural Women and the María de los Ángeles Foundation chaired by Susana Trimarco, are other NGOs that repudiated violence and expressed solidarity with Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

Feminist journalists demonstrated from different spaces warning about the spread of hate speech and called for reinforcing the commitment “for communication without violence.”
“We reinforce our commitment to communication without violence, against hate speech and in defense of the democratic system,” was part of the text of the Network of Gender Editors of Argentina.
Meanwhile, Periodistas de Argentina called for “responsible treatment of information and an end to hate speech that does nothing but damage social peace.”

And the Feminist Journalists collective expressed itself calling for journalists “to exercise the profession in a responsible and conscious manner.”
For their part, Women Workers of Comodoro Py, Workers of the MPF (Public Prosecutor’s Office) and the MPD (Public Ministry of Defense) maintained that the attack against the Vice President “is a consequence of the hate speech reproduced by the media and sectors political, economic and judicial power.
