Hundreds of families enjoyed the festivities of the Porteño Carnival 2023 on Tuesday, with the presentation of four emblematic murgas of the City of Buenos Aires.
With a stage decorated with colored paper, set up on Avenida de Mayo, between Bolívar and Carlos Pellegrini streets, hundreds of families enjoyed the last day of the carnival holiday with pure music and colors, with the presentation of four emblematic murgas of the City: The Lovers of La Boca, The Gods of La Paternal, The Stooges of Boedo and The Caprichosos of Mataderos.
To the presentations was added a Koufequin children’s show and a Bresh Party DJ Set.
With the shining of the sun, the first to go on stage were the members of the neighborhood murga “The Gods of La Paternal”.
A doll of the character “potato head” and another of Diego Armando Maradona with the number 10 shirt of Argentina, greeted those present, accompanied by a gladiator, a witch and a magician.
Red and white costumes, flags, and umbrellas characterize this murga, while embroidered stones, appliqués, glitter and sparkles decorate the clothing and faces of the murgueros.
With his face painted, with a bugle in hand and a green, orange and sequined suit, the clown “Chiche el loco”, who is part of this murga, expressed to Télam the joy of being part of the group and being present today at the event.
“It’s the carnival of the people, when people are this happy it gives us great joy, and the whole year is carnival,” said the clown, who has been part of the murga for 25 years.
disguised as the Hatter”, character from the novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, was Maitena Chernichan, who has been part of this comparsa for 3 years.
“Today we celebrate the carnival, the most beautiful thing of the year. We have been preparing for this day for a year,” Maitena told this agency, and expressed that the comparsa is made up of 250 people, including her cousin, who is so only 10 months.
Meanwhile, under the stage, a pitched “war” of foam broke out between ten boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 11.
With the foam knob in hand were Erika Fernández and her friend, the mother of four of the children.
“They are happy, we came with the foam super prepared to celebrate,” he comments, while his son Tobías (11) makes the vuvuzela resound, and invites Pía (9) and Matías (6) to play again.
In front of the entrance to the Peru subway station, with an incandescent sun, couples ate cotton candy, others drank water at the hydration posts, while the foam crossed from side to side, under the colored flags and lights that decorated Avenida de Mayo to 9 de Julio.
Later, the public opened up and gave way to the almost 450 murgueros of “The Whimsical of Slaughterhouses”, with their green and white flags and umbrellas.
Enrique, Denise, Ani, Belén and El ruso, members of the murga, took the stage with loud applause, singing “I am the capricious, immortal murguero!”.
Marga, who is part of the privateering together with her nephew, told Télam: “Since September we have been assembling the costumes, we glued stone by stone, and we embroider everything by hand. I had a costume that weighed 40 kilos,” he said, while the bass drums, drums and saxophones resound.
The white fringed pants move from side to side, and hundreds of sequin embroideries can be seen ranging from the Virgin Mary, the Gauchito Gil, the national shield, and, on the boys and girls’ costumes, the choice was towards children’s embroideries such as Mickey, Peppa Pig, unicorns, ice creams and stars.
Wearing an intense fuchsia wig, an orange and green skirt, false eyelashes, and a green and yellow feather headdress, Marilu Morales (63), who has been a member of the murga for 20 years, leads the troupe and dances under the stage, along with the children of 7 years.
“The director of the murga is my brother and he was always ‘capricious’. We haven’t been here for a long time and we are happy to dance here again,” he said.
In addition, there were murga classes, a make-up stand, gastronomic patio, foam and the closing of the day by the singer El Polaco.
