Hundreds of people demonstrated yesterday in Mexico City to demand that the Mexican government break diplomatic relations with Israel and condemn the offensive in Gaza, which qualified as genocide.
With Palestinian flags, banners and slogans in support for the Global Sumud Flotilla, which is directed towards Gaza with humanitarian aid, the contingents left almost simultaneously from different parts of the capital.
One of the groups composed of hundreds of protesters began its tour around four in the afternoon from the immediate vicinity of the Auditorium Metro towards the Israel Embassy. Another contingent of around 400 people marched from the Angel of Independence towards the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both were accompanied by elements of the capital police to protect their passage, while the vehicular traffic was cut at different points.
In the first demonstration, the group that reached the Israeli diplomatic headquarters – located by metal fences for months – launched slogans against the Netanyahu Benjamin government and demanded President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to take measures to take measures to distance Mexico from Israel.
During the protest, some protesters jumped the security fences and threw red paint against the facade of the embassy, which resulted in a struggle with capital police who retreated them.
The incident caused shouts and push, although after a few minutes the contingent decided to retire in the direction of the Auditorium Metro.
In parallel, the march that left the Angel of Independence advanced through the central lanes of Paseo de la Reforma until reaching the hemicycle area to Juarez. There, the participants pronounced for the protection of the Global Sumud Flotilla and reiterated their call for Mexico to break links with the Israeli government. This mobilization passed without incident.
Both demonstrations are added to a series of protests made in different parts of the world in solidarity with the Palestinian people and in rejection of military actions perpetrated by the Israeli government in Gaza that have caused a growing wave of international outrage.
