Humidity and serious deterioration force the closure of another dependency of the civil registry in Cuba

Madrid/More than 7,000 kilometers from the island, Juan anxiously awaits the papers requested months ago to conclude his successful residence request process. The appointment approaches and is missing a document to come that, if not doing it on time, it would disrupt the deadlines and put its immigration situation in the country in trouble. Your case is not exceptional. It is lived by thousands of Cubans outside and within the island who expect any of the papers that he needs to formalize some management and do not arrive, a situation that worsens when the document is historical.

The restlessness is aggravated with information such as the one that appeared on Monday in the Provincial Press of Las Tunasannouncing the closure – since March 6 – of the dependency of duplicates of the Civil Registry “for hygiene”. Do not link, but it does remember the news, already offered in May 2023, about the calamitous state of the place. Talking about moisture and leaks in the premises is very short to describe what was already seen there, severely affecting the conservation conditions of what it houses.

The text could not be more descriptive: “The bathroom is an obvious danger to anyone who decides to dare to enter, there is no air conditioning, carpentry is a disaster and, when it rains, that gives grrima.” Two years have passed and what was already taking time to occur, the closure for a month of the building, which will affect the procedures of thousands of people, due to the high demand of these roles that the high migration generates.

Maritzabel Concepción Guerra, main registrar, talks again with Newspaper26who tells that, with two people, it would be necessary for another registrar to be incorporated: “But what is going, nobody wants to come here. And, in these conditions, anyone understands the refusal,” he argues. Two years ago, the template was five people.

Before it was normal to see an inspector there “putting fines and suggesting arrangements,” says Concepción Guerra, who has been working on this record for seven years, but two years ago – cautively the same ones that he makes of the previous report – that none was going. In addition to performing searches, correcting errors, delivering documents and automating whatever possible, they must also be in charge of cleaning and buying the necessary products. The worst: “Labiofam has not trim to make the books there.
