Martin Griffiths, Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator of the United Nations Organization (OCHA-UN), assured this Tuesday, August 2, that, despite the signs of recovery that are registered in the Venezuelan economy, “significant humanitarian needs” still exist.
Through a Press releaseGriffiths highlighted on his last day in Venezuela the importance of the international community showing solidarity with Venezuelans in order to provide assistance to those who are most vulnerable, such as women, the elderly and minors.
The head of the UN humanitarian services, in addition to hold meetings with senior officials of the Executive, the delegations of the dialogues in Mexico and various NGOs, he also visited the Concepción Palacios Maternity Hospital and spoke with the medical staff, patients and other people present.

He toured the facilities to see, in some way, the efforts of his office to improve the situation in that health center and said that it was agreed to publish the 2022-2023 humanitarian response plan, which is required only for this year. about 795 million dollars to execute it and that 5.2 million people can be assisted.
This plan will focus on addressing health services, food security, nutrition, strengthening the provision of basic services, education, promoting protection and human mobility.
Griffiths indicated that joint work was established to improve conditions in health centers. She took the opportunity to thank international donors for contributing 170 million dollars so far in 2022.

“Donors are making important efforts to mobilize humanitarian support for the Venezuelan people but we must do more (…) this must also be accompanied by a greater commitment to the development of Venezuela that can take advantage of the momentum created by these first signs of economic recovery. and help turn this into opportunity and hope for millions of people,” he said.
He took the opportunity to make a call to all sectors of the country and reach agreements that benefit Venezuelans to meet their most basic needs.
